Kupang is the capital of East Nusa Tenggara (NTT) Province and the main centre for the eastern part of Indonesia. Kupang is not only a travel hub, but an exciting destination in itself. The heart of the central business district fronts onto a beach which virtually runs the length of the town. There are many cafes and night clubs and they are incredibly good value - you can get a meal in a local warung for 1 USD and really good western food for a few dollars. Adjacent to the town is Monkey Island with great white sand beaches and a lovely views, but you´ll have to bring your own monkey :)

If you are looking for adventure there are potential breaks to explore on the back side of some of the islands close to Kupang and a boat trip over there to explore when there is a good swell running. You could easily find some great empty lineups.

Around Kupang.

Kupang was an important port and trading point during the Portuguese and Dutch colonial eras. There are ruins and remnant signs of the colonial presence in the city.

Kupang was the final destination of William Bligh who was set adrift in an open boat during the Mutiny on the Bounty (1789).

The average temperatures are relatively constant throughout the year, averaging around 26.5 degrees Celsius, the temperature has never exceeded 38.0 °C (100.4 °F) and has never fallen below 16.0 °C (61 °F).  The wet season is from November through to April, and the dry season covering the remaining six months.

Kupang is the capital city of West Timor. It is a very Indonesian town with its buzzing bemos and honking horns. West Timor´s landscape has spiky lontar palms, rocky soils and central hills dotted with villages of beehive-shaped huts. It also has fantastic coastlines, though there are no resorts, just empty beaches and some with good waves.
